Kamerarommet

Werner Anderson

Photography - 10-14 years

The "camera room" is a photography project that wants to challenge children's senses, imagination, urge to explore and make them aware of their own use of images. Anderson wants to take the children back in time long before mobile cameras and the digital, to the origins of photography and Camera Obscura (which in Norwegian means dark room). The project is based on the simple optical principle the photograph is based on - by letting daylight through a small hole in a dark room, it will form an upside-down image of the surroundings outside on the wall on the opposite side of the hole. The goal of the project is to develop a workshop for children, at Sjøholmen Barnekunstsenter outside Oslo. In part 1, the children will learn to physically transform a large room in the old villa into a camera. In part 2, the children will photograph each other inside this large image that is projected on ceilings and walls in the room. Part 3 consists of building cameras from ordinary cardboard boxes and taking these outside the room to photograph the house from the outside. The pictures the children have photographed will be shown in a separate art exhibition at the end of the workshop so that parents and other visitors can see what the children have created.
