Do not feed the trolls

The Krumple Theatre Company

Theatre performance - Youth

A theatrical performance that addresses the rawness, cynicism and sadism of modern "internet trolls". Kiki Kannibal is the alias of an American teenage girl who overnight became a web celebrity through the social network Myspace in 2006. Kirsten Ostrenga, who is her real name, has over the past nine years built up a huge group of fans and followers but and at least as large a group of trolls and haters. With this true story, the company wants to shed light on how the communication between people drastically changes when one has an anonymous mask to hide behind. Fascinated by the origin of the term "internet trolls", the company began to go through Norwegian folk tales that depict encounters with trolls and wish to look at the parallels between the classic trolls and the modern, hidden trolls. The fairy tale deals with the dangers that arise when one leaves the safe walls of the home and travels into the unknown. What dangers can we encounter today? And what kind of trolls do we have to fight? Growing up is a central theme in the play, as young people today are exposed to new dangers in their own bedroom. From her bedroom, Kirsten tries to reach out to other people, but discovers that the troll is knocking on her own door. What in the beginning was experienced as a game of popularity is transformed in a short time into a brutal reality.
