The Flight

Musical narrative performance – 13-18 years

What do Finnish forests, snow, a thousand lakes and the great hero Vainamoinen from the Finnish epos Kalevala have in common with Damascus in Syria? Yes, Saleh. The project “The Flight” is a musical storytelling performance inspired by musician Saleh Mahfoud’s childhood in Syria and his interest in the Finnish national poem Kalevala. What if Saleh can travel to the Finnish forest on a small bird flying north from Syria to Finland? At Seanse, Saleh and Tiril have worked to make this a performance with storytelling, music, and dance, and at the same time a meeting between two cultures, two landscapes and a meeting between different musical traditions.
