Jugalbandi
Jugalbandi (Intertwined Twins) is a dynamic interplay between dance and music, rooted in the Indian classical concept of improvisation within a structured framework. Born from Amisha Kumra’s research, Onion, and developed in collaboration with musician Ciro Monoarfa Goudsmit, this project bridges rhythmic traditions from kathak and house with breathwork as a driving force. Exploring diasporic hybridity, Jugalbandi translates Hindustani tabla rhythms into electronic soundscapes, creating a club-inspired space for embodied dialogue. Through residencies and performances, we deepen this conversation, inviting audiences into a shared sensorial experience that transcends borders, redefines belonging, and decentralizes dominant narratives in movement and sound.
