ITAC conferences are the world’s dedicated gathering space for artists who work in communities, schools, and beyond, using their practice to create positive social change. Marking the 10th anniversary of our biennial gatherings, ITAC will return to its inaugural conference site — Oslo, Norway —on 1st -3rd September 2022. Since 2012 the ITAC conferences have been taking place in a different part of the world every 2 years, to give Teaching Artists (known by different titles such as community artist, participatory artist, socially-engaged artist, artist-educator, etc.) the space for international networking, professional development, accessing next, best, and radical practices, partnership building, knowledge exchanges and more. For ITAC6 the conference offers both in-person and online programming for delegates – we encourage you to apply to attend in either format.
ITAC6 will be taking place from the 1st to the 3rd of September with over 68 sessions in multiple disciplines. These sessions will be led by 90 teaching artists/participatory artists/ community artists from over 40 countries
Our in-person programme will include excursions to local arts venues and institutions, to showcase the vibrant participatory arts practice happening in Norway. These events will take place outside of our main conference venue, but guidance and support about how to access your chosen venue will be provided when you sign up.

Eric Booth’s Inaugural Keynote
Think of a decade as a chapter. ITAC turns ten at ITAC6, and Eric Booth’s keynote will address the beginning of Chapter Two for ITAC. What can ITAC be and do now that we have thousands of members and projects happening around the world? Eric always walks his teaching artist talk, so you can expect engagement. Chapter Two will be about action and empowerment. We have the raw materials in our Chapter One global network—what change can we bring into the world and into the careers and lives of artists who work in the center of communities and educational settings? This keynote marks the turn to ITAC: Chapter Two.

If you are a climate conscious activist or humanitarian concerned about people who must flee their homes because of war, famine, or global warming. Origin of the International Teaching Artist Conference
In 2012, Seanse Art Center carried out a project called “Teaching Artist Norway,” which would eventually become the first-ever International Teaching Artist Conference! Developed in close collaboration between Eric Booth (USA) and Center Leader of Seanse, Marit Ulvund, ITAC1 featured a practical-artistic focus and international perspective, immediately garnering an enthusiastic reception from colleagues across the world. Seanse Art Center is now one four ITAC Hubs and have a important role of the evolvement of what ITAC has become.
